The Luck of the Irish

There's only one thing better than learning from your mistakes and that's learning from someone else's!

There's only one thing better than learning from your mistakes and that's learning from someone else's! To illustrate this, here's the story of a lucky Irish man who fell down a cliff (that's not the lucky bit) and was rescued in a rather unusual way (that is.)

The 39 year-old man was on the viewing point at the end of Calle de la Virgen in Ibiza town, when for reasons as yet unknown, he fell off and found himself between 10 and 20 metres below with injuries which prevented him moving.

Regaining consciousness he used his mobile phone to call a friend in Ireland, who then rang the Irish emergency services who then rang the National Rescue centre in Madrid who then rang the police and fire brigade in Ibiza. Phew!

A police patrol car went round and the cops lowered themselves down on ropes to help the guy, who had several fractures of the right leg and had to be evacuated from the scene by boat. He was then taken by ambulance to the Can Misses national health operation where he had to have an operation to repair the damaged leg.

112 emergency number

So what's the lesson? The Spanish emergency number is 112, the same as all over the rest of Europe and Ireland.
