Review: Eden Ibiza closing party, 2015

Eden's Gold Incubus sound system brings in the crowds to say a beastly adios to 2015. Where you there?

Eden cruised into 2015 with a brand spanker of a new logo and team, came in with a truck of fresh nights which stoked and re-sparked the embers of the San Antonio superclub scene. On Thursday it was its turn to take a bow to the seasons which bring in hibernation with a pre big sleep closing. For the San Antonio superclub, it was a line-up of colossal proportions with over 20 DJs billed to give its three chambers a final welly.

A queue outside and the club inside packed, it was going to be a strong night that was already well under way. In the main room was Nick Warren, a DJ who through years of craftsmanship is much revered and respected for his finesse. He was cutting the sonic sword through the solid textures of the driving percussions and elevatory melodies that tech-house serves with an onslaught of weapons your chosen Street Fighter alias couldn't reflect.

Head counts were growing, the inner circle was filling and I decided to take the mobile techno truck that is my hearing through to the NEXT room's intimate corners for an ear pricked nose. In this slot was Mikaela, the Russian who landed on the isle with her first underground techno steeped white Isle residency at Destino's basement TOX club. I've heard the sounds that run deep with her taste once before and evidently it runs some way into my sound of choice. I liked what I heard before and I really liked what I heard from a second sampling of the high energy she packs in with the ricocheting guttural tech-house steely basslines.

From Russia to Ireland with Dermot C, a long time Ibiza resident back in the main room. He held his playground for the moment steady with a drumming in of the more commercial licks of Duke Dumont's epic Giver and its pop sounding scape beefed with that electrified bassline that glides through your sensory drive.

Another year, another closing and I'm sure another happy camp in the Eden quarter.
