In A Space Outta Sound

Nightmares on Wax's latest album presciently celebrates new Ibiza residency.

Clubbing's biggest brother We Love further expands Space's musical frontiers with the announcement that George Evelyn, aka Nightmares on Wax will take up what some might call his rightful place on the premier etage on Sundays. In fact Mr Evelyn's new album is called 'In A Space Outta Sound' and he'll surely be airing tracks from it and his other celebrated long players 'Carboot Soul', 'Mind Elevation', 'Smoker's Delight' and maybe even his rave-influenced debut, 'A Word of Science'.

For some the elevated soundscapes of George, aka DJ E.A.S.E. will be a welcome respite from the booming bass downstairs, for others he'll be the main reason to go to Playa d'en Bossa on a Sunday. Though the Leeds (UK)-born Evelyn has never had a White Isle residency before his tracks have aired for years here, most notably on San Antonio's sunset strip. Indeed the third volume of the influential series features his track 'Nights Interlude' and volume seven his remix of 'Letting The Cables Sleep' by Bush.

We Love's musical programmer Darren Hughes announced the appointment last week on www.Space-Ibiza.es and http://www.welove-music.com.

Hughes has stated an intention to bring live elements to Space to take advantage of the new roofed terrace which (according to the recent interview) "lends itself very well" to its presentation but so far no acts have been announced.

Many on this site's forums and elsewhere have expressed reservations about the integration of music that has not been prerecroded into a nightclub enviroment. Darren agrees that a live set at two or three in the morning would cause a disruption, signalling that any bands would be programmed earlier than the post midnight kick off times of Manumission's Ibiza Rocks series for example, two of which Darren attended last year.

Groove Armada will be back for We Love in 2006, but only for a couple of dates. Paul Woolford will be there every week as will Tom Novy, Jon Sa Trinxa, Juan Ribas, Dave Beer and his electric ladyfriends in the Red Box. Dan Ghenacia, James Zabiela, David Phillips, Jason Bye, and Tiefschwarz are also on high rotation.

Darren is also "delighted" to announce that Miss Kittin will appear once, on August 20. He's still working on getting Sven Väth back after his infamous bust up with the club in 2003. However it remains to be seen how the famously zealous security will react to George's noted love of the weed. Cannabis tea perhaps? Fellow Deutschlander Dj Hell hasn't been scared off tho and will play two dates, including the closing party as part of Darren's vision to provide "techno with soul".

Dazza also promises "Bob Sinclair playing on Space's birthday, Dj Sneak, David Guetta for four dates, Smokin' Jo and Terry Hart's Nude concept on two dates including our opening party, Sasha playing the terrace on his birthday weekend on the third of September, Danny Howells, Armand Van Helden and Danny Tenaglia - thank you for returning to us last summer my friend."
