Sunset Ashram, Cala Conta

Definitely one of the best places to see the sunset in Ibiza, though do book ahead as it's a popular location; food is self-service by day and there's table service by night. A good time to go is early evening when the DJs start playing and before the reserved tables fill up so you can sneak in and soak in the late sun and sanctify your soul.

Babylon Beach, Santa Eulalia

One to escape the crowds of Ibiza, this Bohemian haunt reveals itself after passing the deceptively small entrance, when you see a small oasis with a long row of waterfront sun loungers. Drinks can be pricey, though the food suits most budgets. There's a supervised playing area for kids and you can have fun hopping onto the floating pontoon as your drinks await you.

Jockey Club, Las Salinas

Visit this family run place if only for the spectacular vista of the salt flats of Ibiza. When there, dine on crisp calamari and Iberico ham. There's a nice selection of Spanish wines, spankingly good cocktails and some laid-back tunes playing from late afternoon to early evening. It's somewhat of an island institution and well worth the visit.

Beachouse, Playa d'en Bossa

A relative newcomer, this straw-roofed blonde-wooded beach house is found at the quieter end of Playa d'en Bossa and is all the better for it. Food is fresh and rustic Italian style with fresh pasta and pizza. You'll enjoy its small-scale intimacy and love it when dusk comes and the music tempo rises. It has quickly garnered a reputation for being a key party location.

Tropicana Beach Club, Cala Jondal

A legendary yet low-key beach club, this place is a lot more reasonable and chilled out than some of its Cala Jondal neighbours; it is known too for its excellent service. With seating going into the sand of the beach, there's a great ambience and choice of international and Mediterranean food, featuring Ibicenco dishes and local seafood. Lounge in one of their hammocks (book ahead) or relax in one of their super comfortable sunbeds.

Kumharas, Cala de Bou

Hip and hedonistic, with a distinctly laid-back hippy vibe. Here you'll find acres of sofas where you can enjoy the famous San Antonio sunset, sipping a strawberry daiquiri and generally lounging. There's even a market with stalls selling handmade jewelry and clothing. This is high on the list for proper Ibiza hippy chic.
