Writer/Videographer internship

Summer 2019

20-30 hours per week

We are looking for a number of interns to work with us. You will be covering the main summer season (May to October).

It's vital that you have a passion for dance music, music journalism AND be able to turn your hand to all kinds of events and activities outside of that. Two-thirds of your focus will be clubbing, with the rest focussing on all aspects of tourist life on Ibiza.

We'll work with you to make sure you build some great skills; if you do REALLY well, there's scope to get promoted to a full-time Ibiza Spotlight staff during the 2019 summer season.

WHAT'S REQUIRED OF YOU

  • You must be able to write well and previous writing experience is preferred, eg local newspaper, student magazine or blog - please provide recent examples
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation is a basic requirement
  • Good computer skills – this goes without saying
  • Social media savviness is something we expect of any candidate – we'll ask you about this in the interview
  • Specialist skills. The videographer intern specifically should be able to display an aptitude with media equipment and programs - please provide a recent example (e.g. Showreel, Youtube/Vimeo channel)
  • You need to be a problem solver be responsible and take the job seriously. Oh, and we need you to be creative, witty and fun - can you do all that?
  • This is not a nine to five job. We will need you to take on anything we throw at you and it's vital you meet agreed deadlines – this is a deadline-driven job!
  • You must possess a thick skin. You will be in contact with all kinds of people, some of whom won't always be in the best of moods. Not taking someone's grumpiness personally is a job prerequisite.
  • Ibiza Spotlight is a trusted brand and you will be representing us, so diplomacy needs to be your watchword
  • In terms of music genres, please leave your prejudices at home. This is really important. We all have our tastes, but a trance fan who doesn't get Cocoon is as equally unwanted as a techno snob who doesn't get why 5000 people go to Cream every week. In other words, be up for anything!

Beyond that there are no rules and no ideal candidate: it's up to you to catch our attention.

What's in it for you?

  • One-on-one mentoring and teaching – everything we know, we want to pass on to you. We will work with you individually to greatly improve your skills.
  • Free guestlist/passes for venues – within reason, we'll sort you out
  • Exposure – have your work published on Ibiza's biggest website; several million people will see the fruits of your labour over the summer
  • Networking opportunities – this is the first step to working on Ibiza, in journalism and in the music business: working with us will provide the connections you need to network on an international level
  • Money – while most internships just offer expenses for travel and lunch, we appreciate we're not just a bus ride away. We offer increased expenses to assist towards rent/living costs once interns arrive on Ibiza. Full details will be discussed with potential candidates.
  • Office space – use our office and internet whenever you want
  • The summer of your life – a whole summer of the best music, people, parties, beaches and top experiences
