48 hours in Playa d’en Bossa

A rip-roaring two-day itinerary for Ibiza's most popular resort.

Why go?

Playa d'en Bossa is Ibiza's most popular resort for a reason. Its long sandy beach is the island's biggest and is lined all the way with some fine restaurants, hotels for all tastes and budgets and divine beach clubs: a strip where you choose the vibe and the tempo. The nightlife here is a huge draw and what better than having three super-clubs on your doorstep. Quiet spots or action spots, couples or groups of friends and families: Playa d'en Bossa really is all yours for the taking.

Sleeping

Lots of hotels give some amazing views of the sea and of Ibiza Town's walled citadel to the left. For adults-only chic, try the Tropicana Ibiza Suites: Miami glamour, wild pastel shades and a selection of 30 different cocktails from its Cocktails & Dreams bar, which you can enjoy on one of its fabulous Dream Beds. Even the rooms are named after cocktails.

Those looking for an oasis of peace might want to choose the Torre del Mar Hotel located at the far end of the resort towards Figueretas. New for this year is a brand new spa with sea views. Relax watching the beautiful blue waters or step onto the Excellence Terrace and slide into the Jacuzzi.

Hotel Playasol Bossa Flow has mid-range pricing and some great facilities in this sublime adults-only sanctuary: a pool surrounded by Balinese beds offers a peaceful paradise. Located away from the seafront, there's that extra bit of seclusion too.

Day 1

Breakfast or brunch

First thing's first and to start the day, get some good energy. Some morning elegance might be just what you want; if so, go to the supremely-stylish Nassau Beach Club for a lovely filling breakfast next to the sea with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Another venue on one of the two main streets of the resort is Passion Cafe, which offers a full cooked breakfast or a vegetarian option, that's high on the vegetables and low on the calories; here, you can opt for one of its superb smoothies for an early day kick-start

A nice walk

Go to the far end of the beach heading right and you will come to a much quieter end, where you can walk to the old pirate tower of Torre de sa Sal Rossa. Just on the other side of it, you will find even more tranquillity at La Xanga, a secret little beach surrounded by pretty fishermen's huts. The water is calm and there's a small islet, Illa de sa Sal Rossa that you could even swim to. Take your snorkel too.

Places to shop

Wandering back, you might want to browse the shops and pick up a lovely item to wear or take home. Tanit Beach Ibiza has a gorgeous boutique that's located just inside the main entrance, where you will find a nice little number to wear for your evening out. La Sirena on the main street of Carretera Playa d'en Bossa has lots of Ibizan momentoes as well as clothes and shoes. For hand-crafted goods, head to the hippy market just behind Santos Ibiza Suites. Running every day and evening, you are sure to find something to treasure and delight.

Pre-drinks

Back at the Torre del Mar hotel, for a serene cocktail, get luxury and some splendid views. Hip bar Dunes on the main street has some great early evening two-for-one cocktail deals or maybe you might just want a refreshing juice. Try its great diner-style food too. If you want seafront sass, then take a trip to the Santos Ibiza Coast Club, with events all through summer and cool resident DJs. A great way to get the party started.

Club nights

What a choice you have. Maybe you want a bit of South African Black Coffee at glitzy Hï Ibiza or if you can't wait that long, then Ushuaïa starts earlier: open-air dancing with one of the best stages on Ibiza, plus it closes at midnight, so it's either an early sleep or you could carry on at Hï. Last, but not least is Sankeys off the other long street of the resort, Avenida Pere Matutes Noguera, for more of a basement underground sound.

Day 2

Lunch spots

What to do for lunch? If you want a good value lunchtime meal, Bali Beach Club is the place to go. Three courses including Cava or wine for under €20. A lighter one-course bite can be had at Steak ‘n' Shake, try the Truffle Burger. For the best gourmet burgers though, try The Booo, they even deliver. For a healthy option, there's always the sushi bar at the Jet Complex.

On the waves

On Sundays there's a great weekly trip from the resort to the mystical island of Es Vedrá, an Ibiza icon if there ever was one - and it only takes three hours. You could do the short walk to Figueretas if you want to be more active, where you can get on one of those super-cool stand up paddle boards or take a kayak tour. Alternatively, take the small Aquabus ferry to Ibiza Town at the far left of Playa d'en Bossa beach.

Time for dinner

Finally, it will be time for a spot of dinner. We'd recommend pushing the boat out and having yourself an elegant evening. Tatel at the Hard Rock Hotel is a showcase of Spanish food, is very glamorous and is backed by tennis player Rafael Nadal. Next door in the Ushuaïa complex is meat lover's dream the Montauk Steak House or, if your billionaire friend is paying, try Sublimotion, where gastro meets tech.

Getting there and around

It's incredibly easy to get to Playa d'en Bossa with the airport being just ten minutes away in a taxi and there's an airport bus in summer. You can walk around the resort very easily and if encumbered by suitcases, there's a great left luggage place if you arrive well ahead of hotel check-in times.

The main street of Carretera Playa d'en Bossa is where many bars are located as well as the super-clubs Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa. Heading down this long road towards Ibiza Town, you will come to a left turn in the road, up to a roundabout, where there's a right turn onto the other long street. Here you will find more bars along the road. For more information, see our fantastic resort guide.
