Full On Ferry with Ferry Corsten 30.8.11

A few hundred people and a lot of epic Trance. Yes please.

Sankeys has built itself an impressive reputation born out of the many years of hard work that represents its history. So as they make the bold step away from their home in Manchester, UK, to set up a club in Ibiza it makes sense to enlist the aid of some big names to help them along the way. Ferry Corsten, the dutch Trance legend, is one of those names.

Considering I'm used to seeing the man play to a packed out main room at Amnesia for Cream, it was a novelty seeing him in the more intimate environment that Sankeys Ibiza offers, sipping on champagne, generally looking relaxed and like he's enjoying himself. His ‘Full On Ferry' party is effectively all about Ferry Corsten with some guests, and as a result it's clear that everyone is there to see him, rather than being there for a whole host of DJs or to experience a club night in its entirety (like Cream). This means the pressure was off, and Ferry could ease about the decks, knocking out epic tune after epic tune to which the 300 odd crowd would dually reward him with ‘whoops', ‘yeah's!' and intermittent ‘come on's!' All whilst never bring their arms any lower than shoulder height. All that was missing was the stereotypical glow sticks… but perhaps I'm just getting stuck in the late 90s mind set?

The VOID sound system, which looks beautiful, sounded fantastic and packed more than enough punch to fill the main room with sonic pleasantries. This is the same sound system that DC10 have installed in their semi-outdoor terrace… but it sounded a lot less raw, no doubt due to the floaty synths being knocked out. And with tracks such as ‘All That I Am' by Eastern Star, and Ferry's own ‘Gabriella's Sky' providing the aforementioned sonic pleasantries it really was a genuinely great way to spend a few hours of my life. Also, for all you Trance heads out there, we can be thankful that the event is weekly. So, I'll see you there next Tuesday, and the one after that, and the one after that…
