Come Fly with Me

It's up, up and away for Ryanair's flights to Ibiza this year!

It's up, up and away for Ryanair's flights to Ibiza this year! The Irish budget airline has upped its flights to the island and now has capacity for one million passengers. That's an increase of 200,000 on last year's total of 800,000 seats of which 621,680 were sold.

The extra places have come as a result of earlier start dates for flights which will now start at the end of March from some airports, and an increase in the number of airports used. Seven more cities will be connected directly to Ibiza by Ryanair in 2011, bringing the total to 30 in countries such as Britain, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Holland, Germany, Norway and Sweden.

Ryanair has been flying to and from London, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia during the winter – thanks to a subsidy of €450,000 from the Island Council – and numbers on these flights have risen dramatically over previous years.

This news augurs well for island tourism, especially at the start of the year as Easter falls quite late in April, and Xico Tarres, the President of the Council has urged businesses in the tourist industry to open up in anticipation of extra numbers.

Last year, the airport saw a record breaking 5 million passengers pass through it and hopes are high to surpass that record this year!
