All about the elrow opening party

Mayhem returned to Amnesia.

Global phenomenon and island favourite, the iconic elrow has - lucky for us - returned to Amnesia for another season. Undeniably having a way with parties, it burst into action with yet another new theme for its opening party last Saturday. Here's how it all went down.

As always the season's line-ups are also noteworthy. Over the course of its 20 weeks, elrow offers more than just music. Its opening party was no different.

Even before entering the night club, I was fully immersed in elrow's alternate universe, this time around with the brand new Growenlandia.

Make-up stalls, bouncy castles and photo booths filled the entrance to amnesia, creating an elrow fair-ground allowing visitors to unleash their inner child for the night. I felt overwhelmingly ecstatic.

Inside, however, was a different story. The Amnesia Terrace was transformed from its usually modest interior to an arctic rave cave. Multiple actors were suspended from the ceiling and random inflatables were tossed from raver to raver in some sort of hectic yet endearing manner.

I instantly wanted to be involved in the madness.

Tini Gessler - an elrow regular - set the vibe with her opening set. Playing an array of bouncy tunes such as That's It by Mendo & Fancy Inc, Gessler cranked up the heat in perfect elrow style.

Whilst she tore up the Terrace dance floor, Kölsch dominated the Club Room - in its Saturday edition elrow City - with a special all-night-long performance.

In true elrow form, this room was also transformed: oversized cages, planets, cars and traffic lights engulfed the room whilst actors handed out novelty hats and glasses of what seemed to be Cava.

The Danish techno warrior, Kölsch opted for a euphoric selection of tracks to match the psychedelic nature of the party. His signature tune Grey went down a treat.

By 1:30 it was time for Basement Jaxx. Having never seen the duo in action, I was ready for their highly anticipated DJ set in the Terrace.

Their classic Where's Your Head At made for a nostalgic rave experience and wowed not only me but also the entire dance floor, as did Donna Summer's I Feel Love which also appeared in Basement Jaxx's amazingly diverse set.

Joris Voorn, another Elrow favourite, was next to the decks and after an elrow-style rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody played by a brass band in-between Basement Jaxx and Joris, I was left wondering what ever would come next.

Kicking off with anthem Losing It by Fisher, Joris Voorn killed it as usual. He also played an elrow music EP by De la Swing called Everyday and his own track Ryo.

Finally, De La Swing took to the Terrace and finished off the party. His set saw more confetti, more inflatables and more smoke machine action than any other of the night.

The Will Easton remix of Cloonee's Be Good To Me was the perfect track to end a wild and wonderful elrow night.

For a whopping summer, make sure to experience colours, confetti and crazy tech-house tunes at this ultimate madhouse elrow every Saturday at Amnesia.
