Cala Moli Clean Up

We've already brought you the news that Ibiza's Cala Moli beach

We've already brought you the news that Ibiza's Cala Moli beach in San Jose won't have any sunlounger concessions on it this year. It's part of the Council's drive to make the beach 'Natural and Sustainable' and more at one with nature and return it to its original aspect.

Yesterday a large team of volunteers arrived to clean up the beach and the surrounding sea of rubbish. They managed to collect four skip loads of junk including tyres, bottles, building materials and a boat wreck. Perhaps more important for the long term health of the area were the mountains of an invasive seaweed commonly known as Cat's Claws which is extremely bad for the existing ecosystem.

The 60 volunteers turned up from all over the island and some from as far away as Palma, Mallorca, and as is usual on these occasions, all tucked into a giant paella when the work was done.
