Preview: Dimensions Festival, Croatia

From one dance music mecca to another - Croatia, we salute you.

International festival ahoy!

We've got pretty much everything you could need here in Ibiza, but with the postponement of newly spawned Ibiza 123 festival until next year, we're a little low on festivals. Fortunately there's another idyllic paradise on the other side of Europe that has them by the boatload – Croatia.

From Thursday the 5th until Monday the 9th of September, Fort Punta Christo Pula in Croatia provides the incredible setting for one of the best underground dance festivals there is in the world – Dimensions. Still very much in its infancy having debuted only last year, it's incredible how quickly word has spread about this festival featuring the deep end of electronica: including techno, house, deep dubstep, drum and bass and whatever dark sounds float in between. In terms of location, Dimensions has jumped on board an already world famous venue in Fort Punta Christo, which for some time has also been the backdrop for the famous Outlook festival. Fill the high ruinous walls situated on the dazzling Adriatique coastline with the highest quality and of-the-minute underground DJs and live electronic acts… and you've got yourself an unmissable week.

Let's talk line-up. There are almost 250 names on the bill, so forgive us if we don't list them all (full line-up can be viewed at www.dimensionsfestival.com). We can however pluck out a handful of highlights to give you an idea. Pushing the incredible sound systems to their limits will be Ben Clock, Ben UFO, Benji B, Bicep, Blawan, Boddika, Brandt Brauer Frick, Casino Times, Daphni, Dave Clarke, dBridge, Demdike Stare, Derrick May, Dixon, Endian, Floating Points, Gilles Peterson, Huxley, Karenn, Kowton, Levon Vincent, Midland, Model 500 (live), Moodymann, Mount Kimbie, Move D, Mungo's HiFi, Omar S, Pangea, Pantha du Prince (live), Pariah, Pearson Sound, Pedestrian, Prosumer, Roman Flügel, Theo Parrish, Will Saul, XXXY, Zed Bias and – we really mean it this time – many, many more.

As if five days and nights of music wasn't enough, a trip to Dimensions also could include the pre-festival concert on the 4th of September at the Roman Amphitheatre Pula Arena, with Bonobo (with a full band), Mount Kimbie, Portico Quartet and Andrew Ashong all playing live. And then there are the famous boat parties, running throughout the week and giving punters the opportunity to continue dancing along the incredible coastline. This year there are 32 boat options, some of which have already sold out.

Spotlight will be sending some team members off-island to cover this event come September, so get involved and experience this first-hand so that when it comes time to read the review from the comfort of your living room you can say, “I was there!”
