Review: Bloc Party at Ibiza Rocks

Ibiza Rocks into September...

We're into september already and the summer season is winding down but there are still some exciting concerts coming up. This week, as expected, there was a heavy presence of locals who didn't want to miss Bloc Party's debut in Ibiza... literally every direction I turned there were people I knew!

It took me while to get into Alt-J's music, self-described as folk-step, but finally got hooked by their incredible melting pot of styles and influences! They presented their critically-acclaimed and addictive first album An awesome wave and most of its songs were played, including "Tessellate" (preceeded by the unreleased "She she she", a vocal duet between the vocalist and the keyboardist), "Fitzpleasure", "Matilda" and "Breezeblocks", finishing with the stunning "Taro" and its indian beats!

Between the two acts, Ibiza Rocks' music director Zane Lowe was back once again to warm up to the main act causing the usual havoc!

Kele Okereke played at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in 2010 presenting his solo album and now that Bloc Party's hiatus is over he returned to the same stage with the band that made him famous!

The popular indie band is back with its fourth album, aptly titled Four, produced by the ex-Fudge Tunnel Alex Newport (who also worked with At The Drive-In, The Mars Volta, The Melvins and a long etcetera) who, no doubt, is responsible of the much rawer sound of their new release. From the new album we heard "Octopus", "Kettling", "Day four", "Team A" and "Truth" mixed with old favourites like the classic "Banquet", "One more chance", "The prayer", "Flux" or "Helicopter" with which they finished before Kele threw his guitar to the ground... another one to add to the list of top concerts of the year!

Tickets for New Order at Ibiza Rocks this week (in case you don't have yours yet!) here. And more pictures + setlists + videos of Bloc Party's gig here.
