Abracadabra! BLOND:ISH shares the magic she’s creating, on and off the decks

Music, motherhood, and a little mayhem. The Pacha Ibiza resident on living life in full colour.

Congratulations on your first residency in Ibiza at Pacha. Tell us how it's been so far?

"Oh my god, it feels like forever ago already. Every week is like its own animal. You know what I mean?

I've been coming here for 15 years and just been learning along the way, and it kind of all acclimated into that one moment at the opening party. Suddenly, you have so much, and as much as you don't want to have it, you have a lot of expectations on how you want it to go.

Literally, the last six months of my life, I've never worked or hustled so hard on anything in my life (and I've hustled a lot in my life) compared to launching this residency.

And I know what goes into a residency here!

In my first summer that I ever came to the island, it was because a guy in Montreal who owned Stereo and a rich lady said to my friends, "Hey, here's a million dollars. Go start a party in Ibiza.” And then my friend asked me to come play. I was 18 years old, but I got to understand the island very fast.

So, getting back to launch night, it was perfect. Okay. Of course, it comes with its obstacles, but you iterate each week. You just need to get it off the ground."

If we look at the names you have joining you, they’re pretty incredible. And the back-to-backs - Marco Carola a few weeks ago, Vintage Culture and Franky Rizardo too. How do you decide who's going to join you on the line-up, especially for those really special back-to-backs?

"I just reach out to my friends, honestly. It’s like a family affair. I just went through all the DJs I love and who are my friends.

Some of them can do it, some of them can't because they have their own residencies and politics or whatever. And this is what came of it. And it happened to just be a great line-up that came about.

I'm a Libra, so everything I do is very balanced. I'm never going too much in one direction. Even my music tells a story that goes through many genres, you know, even the line-ups are like that, but somehow it all feels very balanced.

That’s my job, it's my art. You know what I mean?"

Well, we do know that you always have a lot of fun at your parties. We saw on your social media where you literally duct-taped yourself to the Pacha crowd. How did this happen?

"Oh, Marco (Carola) uses it as his drink holder. When he finished, he took his equipment, and I just saw it sitting there, beside the CDJs all alone. I always love props at parties. Like I always need something in my hands just naturally, whether it’s a rubber ducky or whatever. This time, it was duct tape.

So I'm taking risks and seeing what works and what doesn't. But if you don't take it, then you don't know. And if you do take a risk, then you get feedback, and then you reiterate.

But with the duct tape thing, I can't control what happens at the party. It happens spontaneously. I just love feeding off the crowd, I love connecting with them. When I'm playing music, I can't have conversations, I can't understand what everyone's going through.

What I do is, I go early to my show, to Abracadabra. I spend time in the crowd. I go out and I hug people. Like on the opening night, I was there early doors. I started doing this in New York and in L.A., and I really noticed how much people appreciate the fact that I'm acknowledging them or spending time on the dancefloor, not just showing up five minutes before. It's like, ‘okay, she's here for us.’

People fly from all around the world to the shows, and they appreciate it. So I go the extra mile, because Abracadabra is about helping people live their best life and showing people how to create their own magic.

So that sparks those moments; that energy."

Ibiza isn't Abracadabra’s debut. It's been all over the world as well. So, is that the ethos of the party and the intention to create that community experience wherever you go?

"One hundred per cent. We started Abracadabra (along with wife Liana) because we're women, and we love to pay attention to the details of the party. We've both been going out for a long time, and we just wanted to do our own version of what we think an amazing party is.

The fact is, music is endlessly explorable because it exists in everything. So, when you know that it's endlessly explorable, when you're talking about a party setting, you ask, ‘What’s more?’ There's always something, like, more purpose.

And then when we learnt the meaning of Abracadabra, and that it means ‘'I create as I speak’ in every single language in the entire world.

We're like, we're onto something here. Why don't we bring this through the music and to the party, to the rest of the world?

So, without preaching about it, we're doing that through the music and everything that's happening at the party.

Abracadabra is actually now a registered church in the US. We figured, what are we doing? Well, we're sharing the faith of magic, right? So technically, we're a church."

Wow. How amazing. When did you do this?

"Two years ago. But we’re doing it in a meme-afied way. We're going to be discussing it soon, around the middle of the residency, and then we’ll start sharing it.

Because personally, we've been building a family. We now have a kid, Bodhi, he's almost one year old. So I haven't had the time to really grow the community properly yet. There is a community, but there's not a whole funnel for everyone to live their best life through Abracadabra. Yet...

<img class="image-embedded_auto_740_width" src="https://dv7zfk0hwmxgu.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/styles/embedde…; data-entity-uuid="insert-embedded_auto_740_width-6081cbc9-3c3b-43bc-b7f6-eb2bde327cf5" data-entity-type="file" width="740" height="493">
On top of building Abracadabra, you have your Bye Bye Plastics foundation. Do they both run alongside each other? And what's your goal for it?

"Well, to help festivals become plastic-free. It's a big job. But we're one phone call away from most people in the music industry. So we thought, we can do something about this problem.

We did a zero-plastic club in Paris six months ago, where 25 clubs came together and all pledged to go single-use plastic-free. Then we took that case study, and now we’re bringing it to clubs in London. So that will be launched in the next few months as well.

We also have a partnership that we’ve just launched. I'm going to play there next week at the Gallery Club in London and help them with their whole sustainability plan.

Camille, the co-founder, she runs Bye Bye Plastic and she's killing it. I created the initial vision. I understand how to make change, how to accelerate change, you know, connect the dots, and use my contacts as well. But I'm not involved in the day-to-day. That's all Camille."

How about on Ibiza, or is there anywhere else that you've got on the map?

"Yeah, of course. We do a lot in the States, and we're expanding to Singapore. They are super passionate about bringing it over. They have a lot of contacts and want to make an impact. So, we've set up all these different infrastructures on how to make things change quickly."

How are you managing the balance between your projects, motherhood, and the decks?

"Well, with Liana, my wife, we’re an awesome team. I’m the parent, but she really takes on the mother part: the logistics of the family, the nannies, the travel. And she produces Abracadabra too."

We started it together. We were friends, you know, we met in Tulum ten years ago. We were best friends and, then we found love. Now we do everything together."

What a beautiful love story, so it's like a little travelling family band?

"Yeah, it's awesome."

You've obviously got a super hectic summer ahead, but at the end of July, you hand over to Mau P. Does that mean downtime with your family, or is it still nonstop after that?

"We have this house here till the end of September, so I want to enjoy it a little bit. I have a bunch of gigs in August, but not as many as June and July. I made a week, where I’ll be having my family over as well. I mean, Ibiza is the only place to be in the summer."

<img class="image-embedded_auto_740_width" src="https://dv7zfk0hwmxgu.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/styles/embedde…; data-entity-uuid="insert-embedded_auto_740_width-8c3ebe04-ddc9-4785-921f-5667b682cbcc" data-entity-type="file" width="740" height="1110">
So, your album <a href="https://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/magazine/2025/03/album-month-blondish-n…;‘Never Walk Alone’ was released earlier this year, in February. Is there anything else musically we can expect to hear in the year ahead?

"Yeah, of course. I have the Moby release that just came out a few weeks ago. I collaborated with him on one of his old tracks, Natural Blues. He's an incredible artist. A real artist.

I'm a businesswoman and a visionary, but he's an artist, and he's really true to that.

I did a podcast with him a couple of weeks ago in L.A. I asked him, Why did you hit me up? I didn't know him or anything. He was like, I just love what you're doing, pick any song."

How did you choose the track?

"I was already thinking Natural Blues or Porcelin. And then I just knew, it was Natural Blues. Because I think the kids would like it too, as well as the older generation.

Then after that, I have something with Empire of the Sun. They asked me to remix one of their records, Walking on a Dream. That's coming out 11 July. I’ve already played it at Pacha.

I mean, we're actually trying to get him to come sing it live. I’m really hoping he confirms it.

Let’s hope so. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the announcement…

You can catch BLOND:ISH and Friends at Abra…;, every Wednesday until 30 July at Pacha.

Images: La Skimal and Raul Sanchez
