Hot new tracks for May 2020

Top releases from April.

By now we're sure you'll have seen some of the scenes on outdoor terraces across Ibiza.

After being under lock and key since 16 March, our island is slowly opening back up and working towards a “new normal”. It's been a welcome relief catching up with friends and once again being able to enjoy a drink in the sunshine.

It's still a long road to go, but it does feel like we've turned the corner.

We've scaled down the size of our May round-up feature, placing renewed emphasis on quality productions. Music is a healer, and no matter where your country is on its pandemic timeline, we hope you find this small selection of tracks from last month therapeutic. Mellow in.

James iD | Don't Wanna Know | Lunar Music | 24 April

A familiar face within San Antonio's club scene, James iD launches his own label with new single Don't Wanna Know. The young Scot can regularly be found playing for parties such as WNDRLND, House In Paradise and Pukka Up.

Prog house cut Don't Wanna Know delivers antigravitational mastery, presented in the label's visual identity. We can't wait to hear more from James and Lunar Music. Now picked up by BBC Introducing hostess Jaguar, set to send it into orbit.

Disenthrall | Dissolve | RUNA | 27 April

Since the focus was taken off the dance floor, many dance music producers have explored softer territory. Several dance music producers have released beatless LPs. Fabio Florido, better known for slamming it out at parties like RESISTANCE, is one.

Ambient album Back To Earth features seven cuts of his most personable and introspective work to date. The full package is worth checking out to see the artist in a new light, but mediative opening track Dissolve is the ideal soother to these turbulent times.

Grimes | You'll miss me when I'm not around | 4AD | 28 April

Canadian pop enigma Grimes has returned with an album's worth of new music. Aside from promoting Miss Anthropocene, her private life has been equally eventful.

Her boyfriend has also kept busy during lockdown. Elon Musk lit up the heavens with the launch of his Starlight satellites, then waged a war of words with Alameda County's office over his desire to restart Telsa's Californian factory.

Amid the drama, he even found time to produce a piece of electronic music with varying feedback. Stick to your day job, Elon. The couple recently celebrated the birth of a baby girl, naming the newborn X Æ A-12. Just don't ask us how you should pronounce it.

Jamie XX | Idontknow | Young Turks | 15 April

Did you say new music from Jamie XX? That's how to instantly get our attention. Changes in tempo, disorientating noises and warped vocals - Idontknow is littered with Jamie XX's trademark ingredients. Might we soon get the follow up to 2015's In Colour? Here's hoping.

Groove Armada | Get Out On The Dancefloor | BMG | 30 April

Ending with some sparkle, you'll want to watch this one in full screen. Andy Cato and Tom Findlay are back and racing out of the blocks! Get Out On The Dancefloor doesn't take itself too seriously and is the lighthearted toe-tapper the world needs.

The single is the forerunner to Groove Armada's new album - their first in a decade. We really look forward to the duo making it back to Ibiza to take control of the decks once more.

We'll be back at the start of June with our highlights from this month.
