October in Ibiza

If you thought the last clubber in Ibiza turned out the lights when the closing parties were over

If you thought the last clubber in Ibiza turned out the lights when the closing parties are over you'd be mistaken. Ibiza's frenetic face disappears for another 8 months and the quieter side holds sway.

Daytime temperatures are still in the 20's, the sea is perfectly warm for swimming and the nights are cool enough for you to wear your glad rags with style.

It is, without doubt, the best month of the holiday season to get yourself out and about in Ibiza, be that on foot, by bike, on horseback or by bus and car. Whether solo, or in an organised event, the weather, scenery, flora and fauna, combine to make an unforgettable experience out in the open air.

Some organised events taking place this month are the 11th Annual Cycle Tour from the 12th (a public holiday) to 15th which unites hundreds of cyclists on an organised tour of the lanes of the island as well as lots of social events. Also from the 12th the annual fiesta of thrills, spills and lots of noise – Xtreme Action Jetbou – takes place in San Antonio bay where you can see some of Britains best Jet Ski experts in spectacular action. More sedate, but nevertheless just as much fun, is the kayak tour of Ibiza taking place from 8th to 14th around the beautiful coastline of the island.

If all that action has made you a little peckish, then Santa Eulalia holds its annual Tapavi tapas and wine shindig on the 19th. Just to remind you, lots of bars around the town's restaurant street, Calle San Vicente, get together to provide typical tapas and wine at really good prices, ideal for an unforgettable night out!

San Rafael, Ibiza's artisan town celebrates its saint's day on the 24th with lots of music, beer and dancing - we don't know the details yet, so here's last year's report to give an idea of what happens

One event in October which typifies rural life in Ibiza is the Fira de Bestiar (Animal Fair) held in Santa Gertrudis at the end of the month which attracts tens of thousands of people over the days its held. We don't have details yet, but the penultimate weekend is the usual date of the fair which features agricultural animals (and products) born, bred, raised and ahem, killed on the island.

So, there we are, October really is a nice month for a holiday here.
