Things to do this month on Ibiza - August 2019

What not to miss this August.

Knee-deep in the summer season, Ibiza is about to welcome in August with open arms for one of the busiest and most vibrant months of the year, when tourists bask in the deep hot sun. We love the energy on the island at this time when love seems to spread amongst us all. With a wealth of fun things to do, you will have plenty of distractions.

For top parties in August, see our selection in this article.

Wet and wild

All month long

If one fine August day, you find yourself stuck, grab your swimsuit and make the most of the summer heat for a wet and wild adventure on Formentera's crystal-clear waters. Masters of the game, Wet4Fun, offer water-sport-filled excursions from Monday to Saturday with exhilarating catamaran rides and kayak tours of the island. Take the plunge, you'll love it.

Browse the heat away

Wednesdays and Saturdays all through the month

Unleash your inner flower child for some free spirited browsing at Ibiza's original hippy markets, with Punta Arabí each Wednesday in Es Caná and Las Dalias each Saturday in San Carlos. What better way to escape the summer heat than by spending the daytime browsing for hand-crafted goods, clothing, jewellery and stopping for food and drinks in between.

All about my paella

Every Sunday

If a taste of Ibizan culture is what you're craving this month then look no further than the swanky, Nobu Hotel and its Paella Sundays. Sit back and watch the professionals as they flame up a live paella cooking show and after you get to eat the fruits of their endeavours. No need to call the sitter, as the hotel is offering a free kids club to keep the little ones entertained.

bbc radio 1 weekend

1 to 5 August

BBC Radio 1 is back on the White Isle for its annual visit. The celebrations start at Café Mambo followed by Ibiza Rocks the next day with some of the hottest dance acts on the planet. This event is sold out but being streamed live. Radio 1 then heads to Ushuaïa to link up with island favourite ANTS. On Saturday, sister radio station 1Xtra brings some of the biggest names in black music to Ibiza Rocks, where MistaJam will be hosting a Dance Anthems special. Wow!

It's just the moon rising

16 August

Seeing the spectacular sight of the full moon rising is about as good as it gets. Get on over to Nassau Beach Club's full moon party, when the musical tempo gets lowered for a relaxed way to welcome the moon, followed by a "sexy" fire show and a fashion show from 22:00. Book yourself a table at this glamourous Jet Set spot, try the tempting Mediterranean- and Asian-influenced cuisine, then finish with a flourish with a cocktail in the bar.

A touch of Reggae

1 August

Calling all Reggae fans. Kumharas sure does have a treat for you! Vocal legends, Emetereians arrive at the sublime sunset restaurant with an umissable live performance. Treat yourself to a cocktail or a pre-concert dinner in this Bohemian joint and sit back and soak up the sensational sounds in what promises to be a wonderful musical evening.

Sky illuminations

8 August

As part of the local Festes de la Terra celebrations, there is no day more loved than that of San Ciriac, the patron saint of Ibiza. As well as markets, parades and festivities during the week, look out for the grand finale on 8 August. A superb firework display takes place in Ibiza's port area from midnight, with the pyrotechnics soaring over the walled citadel of Dalt Vila. Get there early to get a good viewing spot.

Art for all with bloop!

15 August - 5 September

A World of music

16 and 18 August

Nits de Tanit, the local annual world music festival has two dates in August, before ending next month. Starting with Eivor on the 16th whose music has appeared in Game of Thrones, you'll experience a beautiful, powerful and supernatural sounding voice. A couple of days later, enjoy the authentic experience of Afghani poetry set to music with Zohreh Jooya & The Afghan Ensemble. Culture? Ibiza has it all.
